Awards Criteria
PRINCIPALíS AWARD FOR SCHOLARSHIP

This award is a medal & certificate to be awarded to eligible students in each homeroom in grades 4-8.
Grades 7 & 8

This award is given to students who receive a 80% or greater in all subjects, in their final grades.
Grades 4 - 6

This award is based on a studentís academic performance as well as his/her personal/social development and work habits.  To receive this award a student must receive A+ís in all but a maximum of 5 curriculum objectives in the third/final term.   In the objectives in which a student does not receive an A+, the student must receive a grade of A.  The student must also receive VG in all  Work Habits and Personal/Social Development in the third/final term.


HONORS AWARD


Grades 7& 8

This award is given to any student who achieves an 80% or greater average in their final grades and does not receive the Principalís award.

Grades 4 - 6
This award is based on studentís academic performance.  To receive this award a student must achieve a minimum grade of A in all prescribed curriculum objectives in the third/final term.  Grades a student receives for Personal /Social Development and Work Habits will not be considered for this award.


HOMEROOM TEACHERíS AWARD FOR MOST IMPROVED STUDENT
(This award will be a Certificate of Recognition awarded to the Improved Student in each classroom (one per class).  To be eligible to receive this award a student must have:
a)   Made a significant personal improvement in his/her academic school record
b)   Showed excellent progress in his/her social behavior, ie. cooperation with teachers and students, completion of homework and homestudy, general attitude, etc.
c)   High academic standing relative to other students in the homeroom is not a  requirement to be eligible for this award.
d)  This award will be made on recommendation of the homeroom teacher, who should consult with all other teachers who work with the student being selected.  The final decision, however, rests with the homeroom teacher.
e)  A homeroom teacher may decide not to recommend a student for this award.  Also, in special cases, following consultation with the Principal, more than one student in a homeroom may be awarded this certificate
.


SCHOOL CERTIFICATE FOR ACHIEVEMENT
(This award will be a Certificate of Achievement awarded to any student who won honors or awards at the community, provincial or national level).


1) This award is normally given to students who win interschool competitions or contests and students who win scholarships at Music Festivals, etc.

2) The homeroom teacher is asked to note the names of deserving students and the achievement for which the certificate will be issued.


SCHOOL CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENT ATTENDANCE

(This award will be a Certificate of Excellent Attendance awarded to any student wh has missed no school days during the school year).
CLASS SPIRIT

This award will be a Certificate given to the student who has displayed support and encouragement to fellow students and have made a significant contribution to the overall class spirit ( one per class).


DAVID RUSSELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This award will be $50 (each) given to a grade 7 and 8 student.  The criteria for this award is as follows:

a) The student in each grade should be performing to the best of his/her ability.  Homeroom teachers should consult with all teachers involved with this student.
b) Student interacts with teachers/peers in an age-appropriate manner.
c) Student willingly volunteers
d) Student shows leadership.


MERCEDES DOLLARD MUSIC AWARD
This award for $50 will be decided by the Music teacher and will be awarded to the students who demonstrates the following:
1)outstanding skills
2) outstanding effort
3)shows a keen interest and dedication to music


MERCEDES DOLLARD MALE/FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award for $50 will be decided by the Physical Education teacher and will be awarded to the student who demonstrates the following:

1) Excellent fair play attitude
2) Participation in a variety of extracurricular and intramural sports
3) Shows leadership and serves as a role model

MERDCEDES DOLLARD LEADERSHIP/ACADEMIC AWARD

This award for $50 ($12.50 to each class in 4-6) will be decided by the homeroom teacher and will be awarded to the student who demonstrates the following:
1) leadership qualities                                  3.very good academic standing

2) class spirit                                               4.involvement in school activities


Peter Archibald Memorial Award
This award is a certificate and a $20 cheque is to any girl on the Junior Girlís Volleyball Team who displays a ďFair Play Attitude and RespectĒ in all aspects of the game towards officials, coaches, opponents, team mates and fans.

Persistence Award
This award is given to any student in grades 4-8 who shows excellent effort on a continuous basis throughout the whole year to be the best he/she can do.

Leadership Award
This award is given to any student in Grades 7 and 8 who shows exceptional leadership skills in roles outside the regular classroom curriculum.
